DHS does not have a facility. All of our animals are housed in foster homes. Therefore, we require having a completed adoption application on file before we ask our foster families to rearrange their schedules for a meet and greet or answer individual inquiries. And, please be patient, we are staffed only by volunteers. It may be a few days before you hear from us.
Andy is a big, playful affectionate boy. He loves to romp with other dogs, but will always leave (no matter how much fun he is having) to hang out with people. He is still in the klutzy stage and would definitely not be good for a family with toddlers or fragile furnishings. He still knocks things over and trips over his own feet (see Youtube video) but he should grow out of that. He would be a great companion for a teenage boy that likes to be outside. Andy walks well on a leash, likes to nap in his crate and is learning to fetch. We think he is part Mastiff as his feet are huge, but we can't be certain as he was found wandering alone when he was about 6 months old, very thin, timid and unhealthy. But, not anymore. He is loving and confident and ready for a family! Andy had a nasty case of mange that he had when rescued. He is over that but we think he has an allergy to grass as in the summer, he has hair loss and red skin between his toes and at times, on his chest. When we keep him crated a good part of his day, it seems to get better but if he is outsaide playing or under stress, it gets worse. Last fall, it resolved completely.

All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. When age appropriate, they have been spay/neutered, crate, leash and house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We believe that we should know each pet well enough to make sure that when adopted, everyone lives happily ever after. Since all of our animals are housed with fosters, we ask that you submit a completed application before we answer individual inquiries. Submitting an application never obligates you to adopt but we will have a better understanding of your needs so that we can better answer your questions.
