DHS does not have a facility. All of our animals are housed in foster homes. Therefore, we require having a completed adoption application on file before we ask our foster families to rearrange their schedules for a meet and greet or answer individual inquiries. And, please be patient, we are staffed only by volunteers. It may be a few days before you hear from us.
Grizz was a stray who wandered up to his first foster's home at the beginning of July, 2013. He is between 2 and 3 years old. We think Grizz is a Labrador/Newfoundland cross. This is a sweet and good-natured dog who loves to play with other dogs and is good with children. He was somewhat shy around people and was content to stay near his home all day and just keep an eye on things until he warms up to you. He is much more social now. This handsome boy will make a great pet for a family with just a little effort. He has been house-trained and gets along well with 9 other dogs in his current foster's home. He loves to go for walks in the woods and a swim in a nearby lake. He does not run away if off his leash but will go into the woods for a quarter hour and then come home. Because he needs exercise, this is not a dog for apartment living.
Grizz initially tested heart worm positive and was treated for heartworms in late August, 2013. He was retested in late October and is now heartworm negative. Griz is fully healthy and up-to-date on all his shots.

All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. When age appropriate, they have been spay/neutered, crate, leash and house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We believe that we should know each pet well enough to make sure that when adopted, everyone lives happily ever after. Submitting an application never obligates you to adopt but we will have a better understanding of your needs so that we can better answer your questions.
