DHS does not have a facility. All of our animals are housed in foster homes. Therefore, we require having a completed adoption application on file before we ask our foster families to rearrange their schedules for a meet and greet or answer individual inquiries. And, please be patient, we are staffed only by volunteers. It may be a few days before you hear from us.

Granny is a 7-8 yr old poodle. She was found as a stray with two other small dogs and we believe they may have lived together at one time. However, they had been surviving  on their own for at least 3 months when rescued.

She had pyometra, so was spayed and is fully recovered.  She, unlike her two buddies, is heart worm negative. Our vet says it may have been her coat as she looked to have never been groomed and we hacked about 10 lbs of hair off which left her weighing a hefty 9 lbs.

Her foster mom says Granny is the perfect little house guest. She has been staying inside and is totally house trained. She goes to the door and whines when she wants out and scratches and barks for back in. She is soooo sweet and will make someone a great cuddler. She is good with dogs, cats and kids but younger kids might not work as she likes to lay around.  She is precious. Our vet didn't note it but she may have the beginning of cataracts.

More about Granny

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. When age appropriate, they have been spay/neutered, crate, leash and house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We believe that we should know each pet well enough to make sure that when adopted, everyone lives happily ever after.
Since all of our animals are housed with fosters, we ask that you submit a completed application before  we answer individual inquiries. Submitting an application never obligates you to adopt but we will have a better understanding of your needs so that we can better answer your questions.
