Learn more about the Bloodhound.

DHS does not have a facility. All of our animals are housed in foster homes. Therefore, we require having a completed adoption application on file before we ask our foster families to rearrange their schedules for a meet and greet or answer individual inquiries. And, please be patient, we are staffed only by volunteers. It may be a few days before you hear from us.

Big Mac is a 3 to 4 yr old athletic black Lab and (possibly) bloodhound mix. He weighs 89 lbs. He is Heart Worm positive but has no symptoms and will finish his treatment at the end of July. Mac is a sweet, obedient dog and very willing. But, he can and will jump out of a 10ft kennel like it is a baby gate just for the fun of it. Sometimes, he jumps INTO the kennel if one of his buddies is in it and he wants to play. At times, Mac does fuss when he is in his crate, Usually when he needs to go out or is hungry. Mac was neutered less than a year ago. He will mark his territory outside at times but he has never had an accident in the house.  Mac gets along well with other dogs and plays with all of the puppies. Naturally, he loves the kiddie pool but we haven't been to the big pond yet. Mac has some slight scarring and some gray hairs on his head from old wounds. They give him character. Mac would make a big, gentle, athletic member of the family.

Special Needs: Mac will need to be retested for heart worms Feb. 2013

All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. When age appropriate, they have been spay/neutered, crate, leash and house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We believe that we should know each pet well enough to make sure that when adopted, everyone lives happily ever after.
Since all of our animals are housed with fosters, we ask that you submit a completed application before  we answer individual inquiries. Submitting an application never obligates you to adopt but we will have a better understanding of your needs so that we can better answer your questions.
