DHS does not have a facility. All of our animals are housed in foster homes. Therefore, we require having a completed adoption application on file before we ask our foster families to rearrange their schedules for a meet and greet or answer individual inquiries. And, please be patient, we are staffed only by volunteers. It may be a few days before you hear from us.
Thelma is a 2 to 3 yr old English bulldog mix. She weighs about 50lbs, is spayed and HW negative. She is good with most dogs but will chase cats and might get too exuberant for small children. When she gets attention, she forgets herself and jumps on people. She is a sweet dog but has had a hard life. She becomes timid if she is corrected too harshly. She walks well on a leash, loves her crate and is "mostly" housetrained. She will potty in the house or her crate if she isn't let out often enough.
We don't know much about Thelma's early life but it must have been horrible. She was scarred, emaciated and almost completely hairless from Demodex (which often occurs when a dog is under extreme stress) when we found her. She had been dumped in a state park and was foraging for food. She was also terrified of doing something wrong and still cowers if she thinks she was bad, no matter how you console her. But, when she is confident with her person, she lets her joyful side come out....for just a little while like when she does her "hose wiggle". * see video!
Thelma deserves to have a secure loving home with a family that doesn't mind that she will never be beautiful and where she will never be hungry or afraid again.

More about Thelma
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids
All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. When age appropriate, they have been spay/neutered, crate, leash and house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We believe that we should know each pet well enough to make sure that when adopted, everyone lives happily ever after. Since all of our animals are housed with fosters, we ask that you submit a completed application before we answer individual inquiries. Submitting an application never obligates you to adopt but we will have a better understanding of your needs so that we can better answer your questions.
